Sport and Exercise Sciences Extended Diploma BTEC Level 3
This course focuses on the application of scientific principles to sports performance and coaching. Individual group and project type experiments are carried out with the latest equipment from our sports science laboratory. Practical sports take place on the college site or in nearby specialist facilities. Visits are included to enhance both theoretical and practical work. Sports nutrition, fitness testing, technological developments in sport and practical sports coaching are among the units delivered. This course is an alternative to AS/A2 levels for those who wish to pursue a career in the field of sport, sport science, sports coaching or professional sports.
Sport BTEC Level 2
The BTEC Level 2 is a demanding theory based course which includes some practical elements. The course provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge to work or study at higher levels in the sports industry, and looks at the aspects of coaching and support required for sports performance. This involves subjects related to nutrition, sports psychology, health and anatomy and physiology. In addition the course investigates aspects of health issues and fitness instruction.
Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
The Level 3 Extended Diploma is an advanced course that investigates current issues and principles around the development of sports coaching and fitness. This involves aspects of sports coaching and development, exercise for specific groups, talent identification and organising sports events. This is a theory and practical based course. You will be provided with the knowledge and practical skills required to work in or study at higher levels in related fields.

Award in Fitness & Physical Activity
Throughout your time on this programme you will have the opportunity to study within the Colleges new sports block and access our state of the art facilities. During the course you will study: -the basic structure and function of the human body in relation to exercise and fitness -using a personal exercise programme utilising the principles of fitness (frequency, intensity, time, type and adherence) -an introduction to the role of the fitness instructor -an introduction to the fitness industry and careers in fitness -the basic principles of assisting in leading an exercise session safely and effectively -the benefits of a balanced diet and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle
Fitness Instructing (Gym Based) Level 2 Certificate (YMCA)
Intro to Fitness Instructing
This short course is ideal if you are considering a career in fitness and instructing. Over a few short weeks you gain a basic knowledge of the industry and the role of the fitness instructor. The content includes: - an introduction as to what a fitness instructor role might include - basics on how the body might function in relation to exercise - how diet and exercise impact on a healthy lifestyle You would be able to progress on to a L1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity.
Personal Training Level 3 Certificate (YMCA)
The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This course is designed to follow on from the Level 2 course in Fitness Instructing, and takes the principles and knowledge covered on that course to a more advanced level. The course will allow you to apply your knowledge in a more diverse and specific way to meet the needs of individuals more specifically. Aspects such as Nutrition and sports performance are added to the knowledge base of the learners.
